Manual Brake Conversion Kit, 1979-1993 Mustang
Actual product may differ from photo.

  • Item # MMBAK-10
  • Manufacturer: Maximum Motorsports
Billet Aluminum Pedal Box Spacer

Kit converts a Fox Mustang from power brakes to manual brakes. Includes new pedal arm, firewall adapter block, pushrod, and hardware. Does not include master cylinder or brake lines.

This kit fits
  • 1979-1993 Mustang
  • Direct replacement master cylinders for 1979-95 Mustangs
  • Some aftermarket master cylinders. See the list on the Fitment tab for Wilwood fitments.
  • Manual Brake Installation Kit or adapter fittings. The MM Manual Brake Conversion Kit moves the master cylinder 6.5" closer to the firewall than when mounted to a 1986-1993 Mustang V8 vacuum booster. This requires rerouting and lengthening the hard lines connected to the master cylinder. MM makes this task easy with our installation kits and adapter fittings that allow easy installation without any cutting or flaring of brake lines.
Important Notes
To maintain safe stopping distances, we strongly recommend that your Mustang have:

Pedal Box Spacer
When installing the MM Manual Brake Conversion Kit, it’s common to discover the stock plastic pedal box spacer is damaged. Plastic tends to get brittle over time, and installers often find the original pedal box spacer is broken. MM has what you need; our MMBK-30 Pedal Box Spacer is made of billet aluminum to last the life of your Mustang. Be prepared; select the option above to get an MMBK-30 along with your MMBAK-10.

Aftermarket Master Cylinders
See the Fitment tab for important information about aftermarket master cylinders.

While some aftermarket master cylinders will fit this conversion kit, we recommend using one of the several Mustang master cylinders.
  • Direct replacement Mustang master cylinders are readily available from MM, as well as most auto parts stores.
  • MM makes master cylinder installation kits that make installing a stock Mustang master cylinder much easier. However, we don't make such kits for aftermarket master cylinders; you'll be on your own to create lines with the proper tube nuts.
  • Alternative when vacuum-assisted brakes don't work properly due to low engine vacuum.
  • Consistent pedal feel: no longer varies from fluctuating vacuum level.
  • Reduces weight.
  • Less pedal effort compared to reusing a power brake pedal with a manual conversion because the MM pedal arm has the proper leverage ratio for manual brakes.
  • Firmer pedal feel: the MM pedal arm is much stiffer than the stock pedal. This quickens brake response and improves modulation.
  • Firewall adapter block mounts the master cylinder at the proper angle for correct pushrod alignment. A misaligned pushrod will damage the master cylinder piston seals.
  • Pedal pad height (the pad distance from the firewall) is adjustable for easier heel-toeing.
  • Quickens brake response by eliminating the motion lost by the stock brake light switch attachment design.
  • MM-engineered pedal arm is stiffer than OEM pedal
  • Adjustable-height pedal pad
  • Aluminum CNC-machined firewall mounting block
  • Heavy-duty adjustable-length pushrod
  • Pushrod attaches to pedal arm with a spherical rod-end
  • Adjustable upper pedal stop
  • New brake light activation switch
  • Includes mounting hardware
This kit fits
  • 1979-1993 Mustang
  • Direct replacement master cylinders for 1979-95 Mustangs
  • Some aftermarket master cylinders; see below
Aftermarket master cylinders must have these features to fit this kit:
  • Mounting stud spacing of 3.20" to 3.22", center to center.
  • Pilot diameter of less than 1.590"
  • Pushrod bore depth between 1.10" and 1.85". See below for a guide to measuring the pushrod depth.
